fall essential #3: the leather jacket

the leather jacket is a MUST HAVE because it's good for layering- and layering is always a good thing in the fall.  i LOVE me some leather jackets.  i used to be just into the hard core black leather jacket until a cashier at Wal-Mart told me i looked like i was going to go kill someone and they ask me to get some bad ones for them too.  LOL, i have been known to put up a very stern intimidating facade (trust me- not on purpose!!) but i never thought i would be considered the type to be on the hunt for corrupt  souls to burn like johnny blaze on ghost rider--- although i do own and know how to operate a dirt-bike. ANYWAYS, if you know me at all, this was not my motivation for that afternoon and after that whenever i wore my black leather jacket i would make an extra effort to put on a grin or big smile.  but now i own a tan one!! i first saw jess's (pictured above with me, but in the black jacket) tan one and had to get me one because she totally made the whole tan thing work AND tan tends to be a more softer color than black.    :)

{leather jacket: Elder-Bearman; skinnies: Express; sweater: American Eagle; clock necklace: Aerie; opal ring: Avon-passed down from my grandmother; burlap TOMS: Journey's}
sorry about all the pictures but there were A LOT of good ones thanks to jessica tingle!!  some other tid bits: i like weird sweaters and this navy one WAS NOT from this season.  that opal ring is Avon and it was passed down to my from my grandmother!! and guess what month opal is... October-the official beginning of fall!  i love TOMS--especially burlap TOMS! and pictured above is my lovely greyhound, Cammie whom my family rescued from the track!!  i know there is a lot of pictures and a lot of random information, but hopefully this post will not only let you in on how the leather jacket is an essential, but it will also let you see some of me being me too!!

check out jessica's post about her leather jacket and COMMENT!! please comment, even if you only want to type, something totally random!! i'm desperately trying to get to know my readers!!

fall essential #2: an oversized something

next up on our fall essentials list is: an over-sized something.
this was one of my favorite essentials to do.  just because over-sized (oversized?... whatever) things make me feel warm and fuzzy inside.  i bought my grey cabal knit sweater at Plato's Closet as a sweater to wear to an 80's.  i went to the men's section picked this out as something "i would never wear again" item, paid $3 and something for it, and now it is something i LOVE to wear anywhere!!!
{grey over-sized men's sweater: Plato's Closet; clock necklace: Aerie; my favorite pair of skinnies: Express; black pumps: a shoe warehouse of some sort}
so in conclusion, i will never get rid of my men's cable knit sweater because it is pretty much the best thing fashion-wise that has ever happened to me and it makes me feel good to cuddle up anywhere i go!!  but really any over-sized top is "in" right now, so embrace the cuddliness and grab you one today! :D

& don't forget to head on over to jessica's blog to see her post on her over-sized essential! have fun with this one, it's simple and affordable!!

fall essential #1: a pair of skinnies

eh hem... today i am announcing that Jessica {jessica chronicled} are doing a series together!!!! YAY!! and considering we both love FALL and we both love to experiment with our style and our fashion inspirations, we decided to do a collaboration post series titled - fall essentials -! we will be bringing to you 10 things you HAVE to have in your closet for the wonderful season of Fall! so listen up 'cause her comes numbah 1!

so skinnies are the perfect way to elongate your legs!! and go great cuffed with any shoe!! they are perfect for fall because they will keep you warm and show off your legs at the same time!  they go with any top ensemble: sweater, layers, button-ups, or flannels.  the ones i have pictured are my favorite pair.  they are stretchy, not constricting, and i feel like the wash makes my legs look skinnier- which is very important to a girl that has had THIGHS since birth!! hopefully some of you all can relate!
{magenta top: Target; skinnies: Express; blush rose shoes: Khols; blue button up: from in my childhood}

in conclusion: jessica and i will be bring you 10 essentials over the next couple of weeks.  a pair of skinny leg jeans are the first fall essential.  & make sure you visit jessica's blog to see the rest of her outfit for her skinnies-- you need to because her outfit is SO cute!!  feel free to leave comments on your fall essentials or put up some skinny jean love!

oh and happy halloween!

many thanks to you!

so i just found out that as an etsy seller i am capable of leaving appreciation photos to my buyers!! -thefeatheredowl- has had three sales and even though we like to include our thank you cards with each shipment {see previous post} i figure we will never be able to thank our customers TOO much.  anyways, i scoured the web for a great graphic freebie that would represent our shop well and allow me to personalize the message as much as possible.  i was SO lucky to find The Graphic Fairy and this cool vintage owl graphic with banner!!  with it i created several images, mainly differing in color!  i'm so excited about them i had to post about them!!  this owl freebie could be used for MANY things and i suggest you grab it while you can if you love owls as much as i do!!

so i got the original owl with banner freebie from The Graphic Fairy but all edits were done by me.

enjoy!!

our first sale!!!

my mom and i have started this new Etsy shop called -the feathered owl-!!! and on september 17, we made our first sale!! after about of month of counting the views on each of our items, we had finally sold something.  we had been thinking about how we would package our items, but soon ran out of time to think due to the recent sale.  so i had already come up with some thank you cards to write a personalized message to our customer,  but then my mom had the BRILLIANT idea of making our own tissue paper to stuff around our item in the shipping box.  it was ingenious and i had to blog about it along with some packaging inspirations that have been floating around my Pinterest and Google!!!
{our hand-stamped thank you cards and packing paper}

i hope you enjoyed the ideas & inspirations!! the credit goes to those in the captions respectively and the images above the inspiration images are my own so if you use them credit would be nice! :)

until next time!!!
